The law firm of Bose McKinney & Evans LLP is pleased to announce that Oni N. Harton has joined the firm as an associate in the Estate and Wealth Transfer Planning Group.

Harton received her juris doctorate from the Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis, magna cum laude, in 2008. Upon graduation from law school, Harton served for two years as a clerk to the Honorable Frank Sullivan Jr. in the Indiana Supreme Court. She also worked as a legal extern at the Indiana Board of Tax Review, a judicial extern for The Honorable Patricia A. Riley in the Indiana Court of Appeals, and as a summer associate for Bose McKinney & Evans while in law school.

Harton serves as the executive articles editor for the Indiana Law Review and has earned several recognitions for her professional and academic achievements including: Patrick J. Burns Excellence in Tax Award; Black Law Student’s Association Academic Achievement Award; Silver Level Pro Bono Service Award; Forrest E. Jump Memorial Scholarship; and the Lefstein Legacy Scholarship.

Harton earned her bachelor of arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002. She is admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Harton is a fellow of the Indiana Conference for Legal Education Opportunity and a member of the Indiana and Indianapolis Bar Associations.

The law firm of Bose McKinney & Evans LLP will sponsor the first annual Integrating Women Leadership Conference. The program will take place from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Oct. 19, at the Civic Theatre, Marian University, 3200 Cold Spring Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222.

The program will focus on mentoring and advancing the careers of women. Presenters will discuss leadership style, the impact women are making in high-performance companies and how women can overcome common barriers to achieve career advancement.

Lisa McKinney, partner and chair of the Environmental Law Group of Bose McKinney & Evans LLP, will serve as a panelist. Ms. McKinney represents a range of clients from convenience stores, large retailers, restaurants, hotels, golf courses, and drug and grocery stores. Daniel Yates were named recipients of the Distinguished Barrister Award by Indiana Lawyer in its annual Leadership in Law recognition program. Distinguished Barristers demonstrate leadership in the profession and in their community service, and have done so over the length of their careers.

Clemens’ practice primarily involves jury trials in significant commercial litigation and catastrophic personal injury cases. He serves as Indiana counsel to numerous insurers and transportation entities. A graduate of Notre Dame Law School, Clemens undertook his legal education after a successful military career as an infantry officer.

Clemens is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (FACTL). He is an advocate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and past president of the Indiana Chapter of ABOTA. Clemens has also been board certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocates (NBTA) since 1994, has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® since 2003, has been voted among Indianapolis Monthly Magazine’s “Indiana’s Super Lawyers” since the first edition and has been included among “Indiana’s Leading Attorneys” in Indiana Business Magazine.

Hamilton will present “Health Insurance and IACT Medical Trust” from 3:15 p.m. – 4:05 p.m., and Babb will present “Impact Fees” from 4:10 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., both on June 10.

Established in 1891, the IACT is a coalition of municipal officials who seek to improve the quality of life in Indiana through effective government. IACT advocates for municipalities as the official voice of municipal government in Indiana, and promotes good government through education, training and leadership.

The live Webcast, “Judicial Disqualification One Year after Caperton v. A.T. Massey Coal,” takes place Wednesday, June 2 at 1 p.m. EDT. Patton co-authored an amicus curiae brief for the National Center for State Courts’ Conference of Chief Justices in Caperton v. A.T. Massey Coal Company, Inc., 129 S.Ct. 2252, 2266 (2009) (referred to during oral argument by the Justices and counsel and cited by the Court’s majority and main dissent).

Then, the live Webcast, “Restrictions on Judicial Political Conduct Eight Years after Republican Party of Minnesota v. White,” takes place Thursday, June 3 at 1 p.m. EDT. Patton co-authored an amicus curiae brief for the Conference of Chief Justice in that case, too, that was cited in an opinion. This program will review the post-White caselaw to determine what issues have been resolved and what questions remain. 

The American Judicature Society (AJS), founded in 1913, is an independent, national, nonpartisan organization of judges, lawyers and other members of the public who seek to improve the justice system. Primary areas of focus are judicial independence, judicial conduct and ethics, judicial selection, the jury, the criminal justice system and public understanding of the justice system.

Patton is a partner in the Litigation Group and former chair of the Appellate Group at Bose McKinney & Evans. While practicing law, he taught Appellate Advocacy and Procedure at Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, wrote a book on Indiana Appellate Procedure published by West Group, authored a chapter in a book on appellate briefs, and published several articles on Indiana appellate procedure.

Patton attended the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and graduated cum laude from Wabash College. He received his law degree from Indiana University Mauer School of Law — Bloomington. He is a member of the American, Indiana State and Indianapolis Bar Associations as well as a board member for the USA Development Trust, University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Prior to Bose McKinney & Evans, Morel served as a senior benefits administration consultant at WellPoint, Inc., developing and implementing procedures that provided for effective and efficient administration of WellPoint’s 401(k) and Deferred Compensation plans, among other responsibilities. Previously, she was an employee benefits manager at Diamond Chain Company and an HR specialist in employee benefits at Thomson, Inc.

Residing in Indianapolis, Morel received her Bachelor of Science in business administration, magna cum laude, from Indiana Institute of Technology. She is also currently enrolled in online courses for the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist Program.
